오늘은 한글이 어떻게 만들어졌는지 살펴보겠습니다.
Today, let's look at how Hangul was created.
- 2
한글은 조선의 세종대왕이 백성을 위해 만든 글자입니다.
Hangul is a script that King Sejong of Joseon created for the people.
- 3
당시에는 한자를 배우기 어려워 글을 읽지 못하는 사람이 많았습니다.
At the time, Chinese characters were hard to learn, so many people could not read.
- 4
한글의 자음은 소리를 낼 때의 입 모양을 본떠 만들었습니다.
Hangul consonants were modeled on the shape of the mouth when making each sound.
- 5
예를 들어 ㄱ은 혀뿌리가 목구멍을 막는 모양을 나타냅니다.
For example, ㄱ shows the root of the tongue blocking the throat.
- 6
모음은 하늘, 땅, 사람을 뜻하는 세 가지 기본 모양에서 시작되었습니다.
Vowels began from three basic shapes standing for heaven, earth and person.
- 7
이렇게 만든 글자는 적은 수로도 많은 소리를 나타낼 수 있습니다.
Letters made this way can represent many sounds with only a few symbols.
- 8
그래서 한글은 배우기 쉬운 글자로 알려져 있습니다.
That is why Hangul is known as an easy script to learn.
- 9
훈민정음 해례본은 유네스코 세계기록유산으로 등재되었습니다.
The Hunminjeongeum Haerye was inscribed on UNESCO's Memory of the World Register.
- 10
매년 시월 구일은 한글날로 기념하고 있습니다.
Every year, October 9 is celebrated as Hangul Day.
- 11
오늘날 한글은 스마트폰 자판에서도 효율적으로 쓰이고 있습니다.
Today, Hangul works efficiently even on smartphone keyboards.
- 12
자음과 모음을 조합하는 원리 덕분에 입력이 빠릅니다.
Because consonants and vowels combine into syllables, typing is fast.
- 13
여러분이 지금 한글로 받아쓰기를 하는 것도 같은 원리입니다.
The dictation you're doing in Hangul right now uses the same principle.
- 14
다음 시간에는 받침이 소리에 미치는 영향을 알아보겠습니다.
Next time, we'll look at how final consonants affect pronunciation.
